Buenos
Aires World Tango Championships, Buenos Aires, Argentina
01
Aug 2009 - 31 Aug 2009
In
Buenos Aires, the birthplace and cradle of tango,
dancers from around the world converge to compete
for the tango crown. The world’s most sultry
and smouldering practitioners of stylised eroticism,
part dance and part theatrical performance that
is tango, arrive in Argentina to meet with the Buenos
Aires “milongueros”, the local experts,
to test their tango credentials on the dance floor.
The United States, Russia, Germany and Japan have
each been represented in past years. There are two
competition categories: Salon Tango and Stage Tango.
The former is the more popular and traditional category
in Buenos Aires. The latter, rather more “showy”,
has gained a strong following among enthusiasts
from abroad. The competitions take place in various
venues in the city, with registration and some events
taking place in the La Rural exhibition centre.
Free dance classes and concerts form part of the
festivities
