New Salsa
Jewel, iXt Lounge, Hosts Noche Latina
Fridays!
Join
salsa’s hottest deejays,
Elliott Crespo and Alberth Moreno,
as they launch La Rumba nights
at iXt Lounge, 219 N. 21st Avenue,
in downtown Hollywood. iXt Lounge
is the newest hotspot for a mix
of classic and contemporary salsa
music and dance every Friday night,
beginning at 9:00 PM.
Salsa,
an umbrella term for all forms
of Latin music and dance, has
diverse devotees. To cater to
these genres, DJ Elliott Crespo
conceptualized the idea of utilizing
the unique architecture of iXt
Lounge by creating the Crystal
Room, an area for up-tempo contemporary
Salsa Dura in the upstairs expanse,
while offering traditional Salsa
downstairs in the Main Room.
iXt
Lounge is a charming historic
landmark, a jewel in the renovated
downtown area of Hollywood. Built
in 1924, it became the Hollywood
City Hall, in 1925, the Hollywood
Police Station, eventually evolving
into Hemingway’s Restaurant.
Indicative of the era, its classic
décor is richly preserved
with original stained glass panels
and light fixtures, porcelain
chandeliers, an oak wood bar and
brass grill. There are several
niches for cozying up on couches
while still being able to enjoy
the music and the dancing. The
dance floors and sound systems
are excellent.
DJ
Elliott Crespo spins traditional
Salsa in the Main Room. Born in
Ecuador, he was introduced to
all forms of Latin music at an
early age by his nightclub owner
Grandfather, and was inspired
by Jesus Alejandro (el Nino Jesus),
who exposed him to classic Cuban
rhythms. He has introduced old
salsa, mambo and cha-cha-cha to
a new era of dancers, and has
delighted audiences at the Palladium,
Fiestas Patronales, Goldcoast
Ballroom, Meridien, Congas and
Coco Locos to name a few. He has
promoted and educated several
local radio deejays on Latin music.
His education is founded on attending
Latin music concerts and by listening
to his 3,000+ original CD collection.
DJ
Alberth Moreno, the Latin Music
Phenomenon of Miami, spins contemporary
Salsa Dura in the Crystal Room.
Born in Colombia, he has been
in South Florida since 1995. He
fell in love with the sultry Latin
sounds, and began deejaying for
the largest salsa school in South
Florida, Salsa Lovers. He quickly
established an excellent reputation
in the South Florida salsa dance
community, and has spun records
in various area nightclubs, Hard
Rock Café, Café
Mystique, and Bongo’s to
name a few. With his friendly
demeanor and outgoing personality,
he is the official deejay for
the Miami Salsa Congress, and
is featured at numerous salsa
events locally and nationally.
Alberth is also a great Latin
dancer and is a member of the
prestigious Salsa Lovers Performance
Company.
